Transforming Lives

Children at Risk

Missio Link International is engaged in innovative and life-changing ministry to Romania’s most vulnerable children from school age to young adult through Deborah House, Aspirations, Back-to-School, and Harmony.

Deborah House

Deborah House, the first holistic residential program of its kind in Romania, offers refuge and healing to girls who have suffered severe abuse and trauma. Through the work of loving houseparents, staff, and specially trained professionals, each girl receives individual counseling, medical care, educational support, and the opportunity to form safe and healthy relationships in a loving family setting. The girls at Deborah House are school-aged and can stay through high school graduation or until they reach the age of 18. Over 200 girls have called Deborah House home since the first Deborah House was opened in 2002, with a second home opening in 2012.

Aspirations

Aspirations provides transitional support for the young women of Deborah House when they are ready to take their next steps towards independent living. MLI provides subsidized housing and a supportive community with ongoing counseling, life skills training, opportunities for mentoring, and financial assistance for college as needed. This ministry helps to foster the right kind of accountability and independence for these young women moving towards healthy and productive adulthood.

Back to School

In many places in rural Romania, poverty and generational illiteracy contribute to a high dropout rate for students in both elementary and secondary schools. Through MLI’s Back to School program, hundreds of children in the Recas district are given support and supplies to help them stay in school. Working in partnership with a large inclusion school in Timis County, MLI helps provide the children with school supplies, simple hygiene items, and basic food to enable their families to keep them in school.

Harmony

The Harmony ministry seeks to build healthy relationships and offer true freedom in Christ to youths who have been incarcerated in Romania’s largest juvenile re-education center near Buziaș. MLI staff and volunteers have been invited “behind the bars” to meet with young men and women at this pivotal time in their young lives. Through large and small group gatherings for instruction and encouragement, individual mentoring, focused Bible study, and even cooking classes, these young men and women are welcomed, loved, and offered a new way of living when they re-enter society.
